This afternoon, the White House Blog announced a new website for The Council on Women and Girls which, until today, I didn’t even know existed. Back on March 11, it was created by President Obama in order to ensure that government agencies “take into account the needs of women and girls.”
Now, this is a serious question I’m about to ask (and the fact that I have to make that disclaimer is absurd, but there you go): Why is there no Council for Men and Boys?
America has a tremendous problem with young men, mostly minorities, growing up with no father figure and then fathering and abandoning children of their own. I would even go so far as to say that this problem is a larger crisis than the few American women who suffer from sexism today.
America had a sexism issue once; it has been resolved for the most part. However, the fatherhood crisis, particularly among inner-city minorities is growing worse, not better. Where is the effort on that front?
